Help Our Trails Grow

Date

The Senderos de Nosara project has a chance to expand and improve its trails but needs some immediate help. Last week, the project became eligible for a sizable grant from INDER (Instituto de Desarrollo Rural) that could be used to build little bridges, fill in low sections, and continue expanding the system. However, the grant application is due May 20 and there are many documents to be assembled to get it ready. If you are a Spanish speaker, have a college degree, and are willing to help put together the document, write marco.johanning@gmail.com.

Trail users are telling us what they like about the Senderos de Nosara

Michael Strasmich, who helped establish the Senderos de Nosara Trail System, shares his thoughts:

“The Senderos de Nosara are more than just trails through nature: they are links between the towns and the beaches, between tico and gringo. Now that the basic trails are done between Guiones and Pelada, I have a vision of an ecological corridor, extending to the town of Nosara, the river, and the hills above. Little by little, we’re achieving the vision. Mountain bikers already know about these trails. Now everyone should!”

Here’s another way to use the trails: On Sunday, July 10, the Catholic Church in Nosara is organizing a recreational bike ride. This is a great way to get to know more of Nosara. The route goes through most of the trail system and also through Nosara downtown, the neighborhoods of San Pedro, Los Ángeles through the hanging bridge and then crossing Río Montaña several times along the trail that connects with Santa Marta neighborhood. These routes are beautiful and mostly flat. You can register for a 20km or a 30 km ride. The cost is 8,000 colones per person. For more information, call 8656-1818 or write mtbplayanosara@gmail.com.
