TortuGuiones is now offering private volunteer information sessions for a $30 per person donation to the project. In the session, which lasts from 30 minutes to an hour, you’ll find out about sea turtle biology, the Ostional Wildlife Refuge, and TortuGuiones’ turtle conservation project. You’ll learn how to identify sea turtle species and their tracks and how to report your sightings. These sessions are free to local businesses, hotels, and surf schools.

Gerardo Bolaños, BarriGuiones Project Director, writes:

January is an important month for BarriGuiones. With the dry season well established, we ask our neighbors and tourists to help us by taking a simple action.

Because every tourist visits the beach, especially at sunset, we suggest that they choose one or two plants to water en route. The only thing necessary is a large bottle of tap water, to be emptied slowly at the foot of each tree. Easy!

This will help people feel part of our project, and in addition will help them see first-hand the trees’ need for water during this long dry season.

We would love to see everyone “adopt” a tree and, by taking care of it, create a transcending connection between plant and person, generating a relationship that awakens consciousness of the importance of BarriGuiones for our community. Everyone has the power to make this project a success. Thank you!
