This month we’re talking of great progress on two fronts

Date

First, Nosara Recicla is pleased to announce that trash collection is set to improve markedly and soon. On May 30 the Nicoya Municipality sent a delegation of 3 people in 2 cars equipped with 2 GPS devices to conduct a census of each house and business in Nosara with the goal of figuring out how much trash is produced in Nosara and how many users pay for trash collection. With the help of Nosara Recicla, which contributed another GPS, cars, and volunteers, the census was completed in three days. Estimates are that the Municipality will begin regular trash collection from Nosara in January 2017.

Second, the Nosara Recycling Center is going to become the main point for recycling in the Nosara community. The Center will buy recyclables every Friday from the other informal collectors. This will allow the collectors to be paid weekly instead of waiting for Florida Bebidas to buy from them every 2 weeks or so. Transportes Carrillo will take all recycling to Florida Bebidas’ plant in Nicoya.

Nosara Recicla considers this a win-win-win:

  • Florida Bebidas will lower its cost of transportation.
  • The volume of recyclables collected in Nosara will increase.
  • The informal recyclers will get paid more often.

Thanks to the Municipality, Florida Bebidas, Nosara Recicla, and especially Nice Alterman, Ethel Araya, Christoph Hubmann, Bobbi Johnson, Marcel Schaerer, and Jessica Sheffield for their years of diligent effort in bringing about these giant achievements.
