Nosara Will Celebrate World Environment Day With a Festival Full of Activities

Date

Since 1974, thanks to the United Nations Environment Program, World Environment Day has been celebrated on June 5th. In Nosara we want to hold a festival in which we share as a community, learn more about our nature and help us to reflect on the impact that our actions have on the different ecosystems that surround us.

With these goals in mind, the Nosara Environment Festival was born – an activity organized by the Nosara Civic Association, Del Mar Academy, Guardianes de la Naturaleza,, Wildlife Conservation Association, Harmony Projects, Nosara Recicla and Nosara Firefighters – to create an agenda that provoke awareness and admiration for nature.

The festival will have several venues; it will be completely free and it will take place from Monday, May 30th to Sunday, June 5th.

Community Workshops

If you are someone who is confused about how to recycle, how waste should be separated and what the needs are in Nosara, we have the perfect worksop for you. On Monday May 30th, at 8 am at Del Mar Academy, Nosara Recicla will hold a workshop open to the community about the ABC’s of Recycling in Nosara.

Also, for all those who want to have a better management of organic waste and want to prepare a compost bin, on Tuesday, May 31st at 8 am, at Del Mar Academy, Daniel Rojas, from Milenio Tres will offer a workshop for the community on how to make a compost bin at home.

On Wednesday June 1st at 8am, a workshop on pollinating gardens and stingless bee hives will be given by Luis Zamora, from Miel Dorada de la Bajura. This activity will be held at the Del Mar Academy.

Outdoor Activities

In addition to learning, the Festival of the Environment in Nosara asks that all the residents of Nosara roll up our sleeves and work for a community with clean beaches and seas. On Friday June 3rd, a simultaneous cleanup will be carried out in Playa Pelada, Playa Guiones, Playa Garza and Boca del Río.

The cleanup will start at 9:30 AM and will be led by the various Blue Flag committees. If you want to volunteer that day or want to bring your employees from your business, hotel or restaurant, you can contact Daniel Rojas at 8964-1685.

On Saturday June 4th at 8am the activity is a scientific walk through the Biopark, one of the largest reserves of the Nosara Civic Association. Those who attend will be accompanied by scientist Vanessa Bezzy along with her team from the Wild Conservation Association.

During this walk, you will be able to observe species of fauna, learn about the ecosystems that exist and ask questions that can be answered by the scientists. They will carry binoculars and other types of instruments that will enrich the walk. For more information, you can contact Roberto Acuña at roberto@nca.cr

The Big Day

Last but not least, on Sunday June 5th starting at 9am on World Environment Day itself, a picnic will be held on the Nosara River. The meeting point will be the hammock bridge.

During the picnic, the area will be cleaned first, a snack will be offered and to liven up the morning, there will be a concert with the bands Get in the Microbus and Juandi and his friends. Those who want to enjoy a good dip in the river can do so without fear.

Globally, the motto proposed by the United Nations for this year is “Only One Earth”. In our community we adapted it to “Only One Earth, Only One Nosara”.

We believe that this is a great opportunity where Costa Ricans, locals, foreigners, children and adults can meet. Labels do not matter here. The Festival seeks that we appreciate the great natural wealth in which we coexist and that we value how, in our daily lives, we can implement actions to conserve and protect planet Earth.
