Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Date

Update: The project to empty our landfill is on hold because Aurora de CR, the present collector from Nicoya, had to expand its routes during this high season, leaving no time to come to Nosara. The Recycling Association is discussing other options with Microsan, the company that now collects garbage in Nosara. If all goes well, a compactor truck may be in our future, which would prevent garbage collected in Nosara from ending up in our dump

This month, Let’s talk recycling.

Every Wednesday, thanks to community members and business sponsors, recyclable material is collected from La Esperanza to downtown Nosara. Every week, more families and businesses separate their recyclables from their trash, helping diminish our local garbage.

However, sometimes it’s unclear what is recyclable and what is trash. Here’s a guide to putting recyclables in their place.

First, make sure everything is clean and dry. Rinse out jars, bottles, juice boxes and milk cartons. Then put them in clear plastic bags (available at Super Nosara, La Paloma, Organico, Delicias, and from Belca). Put them in your trash bins on Tuesday evening or very early Wednesday morning.

Thanks to our sponsors for weekly pickup of recyclables

Why is recycling so important here? Nosara Recycles (Nosara Recicla) commissioned a study from the University of Florida on the Nosara landfill. They found that half of the contents comes from organic matter, 30 percent from recyclable material, and 20 percent true trash. We’ll deal with the organic matter and true trash next month.

Thanks for helping solve our trash problem!

The Recycling Center welcomes your contributions!
